Litigation Legal Assistant

Location: Downtown San Diego, CA
Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000 annually

About the Opportunity

A respected downtown San Diego law firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to support a busy team of attorneys in a fast-paced litigation practice. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, extensive business litigation experience, and a strong understanding of state and federal court procedures. This role requires a highly detail-oriented professional who thrives under deadlines and provides outstanding administrative and litigation support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential administrative and litigation support to attorneys and legal staff.
  • Prepare, revise, format, and proofread legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, motions, briefs, contracts, and other case-related materials.
  • Perform electronic filing (eFiling) in California state courts and federal courts.
  • Prepare and update tables of contents and tables of authorities for briefs and court filings.
  • Manage attorney calendars, schedule appointments, and coordinate depositions, court hearings, mediations, and client meetings.
  • Calendar court dates, filing deadlines, and case-related events while coordinating with the docketing department.
  • Enter attorney time into 3E and assist with expense reimbursements.
  • Maintain client and matter files, including opening new matters, coordinating conflict checks, and closing files.
  • Sort, prioritize, and distribute incoming mail; prepare outgoing mail and shipping materials.
  • Reserve conference rooms, court reporters, and other litigation support services.
  • Arrange attorney travel as needed.
  • Maintain attorney contact information and administrative records.
  • Assist with document management, scanning, copying, filing, and general office support.
  • Adhere to firm policies regarding recordkeeping, confidentiality, and administrative procedures.
  • Provide overflow support to attorneys and administrative staff as needed.
  • Collaborate with billing personnel, records staff, docketing teams, and other internal departments.

Qualifications

Required

  • 4+ years of business litigation experience supporting attorneys in a law firm environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with state and federal court eFiling procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of litigation processes, legal terminology, court rules, and filing requirements.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • Strong proofreading, grammar, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Accurate typing skills of at least 60 words per minute.
  • Experience maintaining attorney calendars and coordinating litigation-related events.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

  • Working knowledge of e-discovery procedures.
  • Strong internet research and technology skills.
